International Joint Research Center of Shaanxi Province for Food and Health Sciences, a leading academic institution and science & technology cooperation base in Shaanxi Province, is established in Shaanxi Normal University, the People’s Republic of China. Directly administrated by the Ministry of Education of China, Shaanxi Normal University is a key university under the construction plan of China’s national “211 Project” and a university under China’s Innovation Platform Construction Plan of the “985” Superior Discipline of Teacher Education. The University is situated in the ancient capital city of Xi’an, one of the four internationally renowned historical and cultural cities.
The research in International Joint Research Center of Shaanxi Province for Food and Health Sciences focuses on edible medicinal plants, nutrition and food safety, and foodborne illnesses. Catering to the national strategic demands for human health in the aging society, and aiming at the world frontiers of food and health sciences, efforts are made to promote original innovation in scientific research, to facilitate the science & technology exchanges among the scientists in China and other countries such as Russia, and to contribute to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. International Joint Research Center of Shaanxi Province for Food and Health Sciences offers research and professional degrees in nearly 10 fields of study. The degrees include Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), M.S. (Master of Science), M.M. (Master of Medicine), M.E. (Master of Engineering) and M.H. (Master of History). The center also provides post-doctoral fellowship opportunity. The excellent graduate program has been attracting outstanding graduate students to the center.
The director of International Joint Research Center of Shaanxi Province for Food and Health Sciences is Dr. Hua-Feng Zhang. He is also an investigator of National Engineering Laboratory for Resources Development of Endangered Crude Drugs in Northwest China, and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Medicinal Resources and Natural Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He has published more than 80 articles in journals such as Trends in Food Science and Technology (U.K.), Industrial Crops and Products (U.K.), Innovative Food Science and Emerging Technologies (U.K.), Ultrasonics Sonochemistry (Netherland) and Journal of AOAC International (U.S.A.). In 2012, he published correspondence/ viewpoint of sustainable utilization of medicinal plants resources in China in the world-famous journal, Nature (U.K.). His professional honors and awards include (1) Prize for Excellence in Science and Technology Week in China; (2) Chu Yuet Wah Award in Chinese Academy of Sciences; and (3) Education Award in Shaanxi Normal University.
